1. What was your favorite past time in high school?
I'm still in high school technically, but I really don't have a pastime? Unless reading way too much fanfiction counts. Maybe choral singing, I think that's potentially "past time-y" enough and I can tell anyone who asks me, something I really can't do with fanfiction.

2. What is your all time favorite board game/card game?
I've never played much of either, but I really love spoons and poker (just for fun). I used to love playing the game of life, but I haven't played it in years. (Oddly, today my mom is clearing out some old board games as part of a "cleaning up the house" initiative and there's board games everywhere.)

3. What is the last movie you saw at the theatre and what did you think of it?
LOGAN. AND I LOVED IT. I'M STILL SO EMOTIONAL.

4. What is something (no matter what kind of mood your in) that makes you happy the moment you do it, see it, or hear it?
Hm... there are probably a handful of fics like this, but I can't think of them offhand. Also, cat pictures. I love cat pictures.

5.Do you believe that crop circles are made by human or alien?
I may be an atheist, but at my core I am still really superstitious and believe in the paranormal/supernatural/etc (as evidenced by my recent foray into tarot). So yeah, I think there's quite possibly an alien explanation.

 1. How do you feel about cooking?
I love it, actually, when I have proper ingredients. I probably prefer baking, but I love both. It's just very hard to cook in my house bc I ALWAYS need to go grocery shopping first and it just feels way too difficult, so I just... preheat.

2. How often do you cook a meal (from mostly fresh ingredients, not something ready-assembled that you just heat)?
Uh... I usually make dinner once or twice a week, and for myself I usually make all breakfasts and lunches but only about... half? Maybe? Are actually cooked as opposed to heated? Not totally sure.

3. How many people do you usually cook for, when you cook?
At home, either myself, or for three or for four (if my dad is home). When I'm at school and happen to be on food (like next school week, ahahahahah we still don't have a food plan!) for twelve.

4. Do you have a favourite recipe book or chef?
No, I tend to just google recipes for whatever ingredients I have or what I want to make.

5. Kitchen tools: use the fewest possible or gadgets are your friend?
I like gadgets! I can't buy them, usually, but I do like them. I have a really cool egg yolk extractor but I put it in my hope chest instead of using it.

So. I know probably no one ever reads my journal, because I basically use it as a diary, so I've decided to... not do that. I've decided I'm going to lock diary entries and try to make an effort to post actual interesting things about fandoms I'm in, so. There's that. (the locking was basically just because I got to a point where I want to talk about specific personal things that would give away my location/identity, and instead of talking around them I decided to lock posts overall). Older posts are staying up, I might edit some or lock some really personal ones but other than that. I might still post personal stuff (probably will) just not tedious diary entries every. single. day.

ETA, Sep 14/17: officially locked all older entries. FRESH SLATE.

Ahsoka knew she was taking a massive risk. She’d never told the Ghost about Obi-Wan, or the twins — and she hadn’t told Obi-wan and the others about the two Jedi in Hera’s crew, neither of whom she’d met. It was safer that way, but…

Ahsoka could tell that the galaxy was at a crossroads now. The Force was clear on that. Things would be changing soon, and rapidly. If there was ever a time for the few Jedi alive to meet up, it was now.

She knew she might regret it, but for now, it was a risk she’d have to take.

1. Have you ever been to Ireland?
No, but I'd like to go someday. I think I'm part Irish (very far back, on my dad's side where everyone has been Canadian for several generations) so I think it would be pretty cool, at least for that.

2. According to Facts about Ireland, 73% of Americans are unable to locate Ireland on a map bereft of country names. Whether you are American or not, can you find it on a map?
I'm Canadian, and I just checked -- yep!

3. Are you or do you know a natural redhead?
I'm not. I go to school with one (she's more strawberry blonde, but still), and I know another one who is a leader at the musical camp I go to in the summer. And I think one of my brother's friends is one. I know quite a few, actually, I think.

4. Will you be celebrating St Patrick's Day?
I don't know how I really would? I'm wearing green, that'll be enough, I think.

5. Do you even know who St. Patrick is and why we celebrate his day?
Uh... no. I should research that, lol.

1) What was your first word?
Shadow. The name of the dog we had when I was a kid. (He lived a good, long life.)

2) How old were you?
Apparently less than a year? I just called my dad and asked.

3) Who heard you say it?
My mom. My dad was so confused when I called him and asked those two things, good god.

4) Did you have trouble pronouncing any words as a kid?
Oh, definitely. I was a HUGE reader so there were a ton of words that I had never heard spoken, just read, and then embarassing mistakes happened. They still happen. The only one I remember specifically is albino (I pronounced it al-BEEN-oh) but there were definitely others.

5) Are there any words you consistently mispronounce today?
Uh... yes, they just aren't coming to mind. There are a lot of words that I shorten and/or use weird contractions for, as well, and it ALWAYS gets pointed out if my mom hears me. Not sure if that was the point. Sorry, I'm really tired.

Slightly late and from [community profile] thefridayfive

because I'm procrastinating on actually Doing Things. Oh well, I'm not going to school yet if I even go this week so I don't have to watch the time and go to bed soon.

How many pets have you had at one time?
Right now, I think -- four. My cat, my dog, and my brother's gerbils. We sorta kinda have one other cat but she kinda... ran away slowly after we got our dog and someone a few blocks away took her in (she's an indoor-outdoor cat, like my other cat). I really miss her sometimes, but we see her every so often and as far as I know she's happy, so I'm okay, I think.

What is the strangest pet you have ever had?
I think my taste in animals is boring, really... I've only personally had a cat and a family dog.

What is the coolest trick you have ever taught a pet?
My dog can do "dance", where she gets up on her back legs and spins in a circle. I don't think I taught her that personally but it's cute.

Real animals: What animal have you always wanted as a pet?
Not counting the ones I've had? I wouldn't mind a rabbit, I really like them. But I think I'd rather have a cat than anything else because purring is so comforting to me -- I have a few memories of sobbing my eyes out while holding a purring cat to my chest to make me feel better and it always helped. (Also one time I was having Heart Issues (aka that one time I went to the ER) and before I actually went there my chest was hurting like a motherfucker and I put my cat on top of it and his purrs made me feel a little better). Also I just?? Love cats??? So much.

Imaginary animals: Describe the ideal pet, an animal that doesn't really exist.
Man, idk. A cat but bigger and purrs more often? A cat that won't try to escape? I mean, my cat goes outside and comes in at his leisure but I never stop being worried he'll get hit by a car, even if he's lived five (six?) years without it happening. Idk man, I'm happy with cats. I love cats.

These are not so great answers but. Yeah. I love cats is all.

1. How do you like your coffee?
Generally speaking, I'm not a huge coffee person because my parents never let me drink it with sugar so I never got into the habit. If I do drink it, then with generous sugar and milk. Or just, like, Starbucks coffees with way too much sugar and ridiculous flavours (yes I love Starbucks I'm a very white girl I've made my peace with it)

2. How do you like your tea?
Like, 90% of the time if I drink tea it's peppermint tea, so like... just on its own, I guess? Or with sugar and milk if it's regular tea (idk what to call it?? tea is not my area of expertise)

3. What's your favorite late night beverage?
I really like drinking hot chocolate at night.

4. If you could only drink one thing for the next week, what would it be?
...would probably have to be water. I've been drinking too many sugary drinks lately and my throat is killing me, to the point where it physically hurts to drink anything with sugar in it. I need to drink more water anyway.

5. If you were on vacation, what would be the first thing you'd drink to celebrate?
Probably lemonade. It's my favourite drink, always has been.

This is so so late but I saw the questions and it's EXACTLY MY INTEREST SO HERE WE GO (from [community profile] thefridayfive)

1) What would/did you name your first child?
Girl or boy? Huh. I have SO MANY NAME OPTIONS whoops but right at the moment Cosima, Leia, Lydia, and Mara for a girl -- Amy is probably, like, the name I've loved for the longest but idk if I'd use it. For boys I have... less options... because I don't like as many boy names... but I like Ezra, Isaac and Damian.

2) What do you think makes a good name for a baby?
Names that are personally meaningful, that aren't excessively difficult to pronounce, and I guess? Sound pretty? I mean, personally, I really like names of characters I love because it means something to me, but other people might choose differently, and that's cool too.

3) What do you think makes a bad name for a baby?
Uh... I don't like some names, personally, but usually that's just personal taste. Generally I don't think parents should give a first name that's the same as someone they want to honour, because I think it's a little confusing? But idk man. Oh -- those weird ridiculous suburban white spellings of perfectly good names. IF YOU LIKE IT, JUST USE THE NAME.

4) What's a name that you love, but would never give a child? Why?
Ahsoka, Luminara, Aelin, Cersei... epic fantasy/sci fi names, basically. Or really really popular ones -- I love the name Luke but I know like five of them in acquaintance and I just. Can't.

5) Did your parents do a good job naming you?
I think so! But I think they could have been more creative on my middle name. (My name is Nicola Michelle)

Do you make New Year's resolutions?
I never really have, I'm not that good at it. But I really want to be a better person this year, so I have a general idea of that.

Are you expecting any big life changes this year? (new job, buying a house, etc.)
Not really, I think... well, actually, I think I might actually get a job, for the first time. And I might start going to a school that's basically half outside and on an island and you actually cook with a wood stove and hike for like an hour to get anywhere, but that's still kind of up in the air.

What are you most looking forward to this year?
...would it be terrible to say it's mostly movies that I'm looking forward to? I'm terrible at remembering release dates, but like -- Wonder Woman, Justice League, SW Episode VIII, and probably some others I'm forgetting. And, like, new seasons of SWR and stuff.

What are you least looking forward to this year?
Probably the fact that if I don't end up going to Island School, I have to get Serious about graduating and figuring out my life and I'm... not ready to do that. And also Trump. Everything about that.

Is there anything you want to try this year that you haven't tried before? (could be a new food, new hobby, or anything.)
I kinda really want to try more things in writing, but nothing specific, I think -- just pushing my comfort zone and stuff. Once I actually start writing again. And I would really like to try living more honestly and just be a better person in general, which maybe isn't a new thing to try but it sorta counts as it, I think.

bluegansey: isabelle lightwood on a starry blue background (isabelle lightwood blue)

I saw this? Figured I might as well, even if I'm a little late.

1. Your main fandom of the year?

I think probably Star Wars -- I got into it for the first time in my life (somehow) just over a year ago now, and for about eight months it was my singular obsession. Around August it was replaced with DC, but I think this year, overall, was much more of a SW year.

2. Your favorite film watched this year?

Oh... I don't know, hmm. Batman: Under The Red Hood is one of my new favourite movies, I think, and Watchmen, Batman v Superman, and Rogue One are all up there. I don't tend to watch a lot of movies, or remember the ones I watch, so I don't know for sure.

3. Your favorite book read this year?

I read... so much fic this year, and so few books. But I think... Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld (unexpected sapphic relationship!), Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, or A New Dawn by John Jackson Miller.

4. Your favorite TV show of the year?

Young Justice, probably, which I just watched this year. Annnddddd Star Wars Rebels, which I'm still an episode behind on... whoops.

5. Your favorite online fandom community of the year?

Probably Star Wars? I'd say DC but the discourse has absolutely terrified me to the point where I will not say anything I ship, at all, and despite meeting some really lovely people, the fandom as a whole has fucked me up. Like, so badly.

6. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?

I... don't really understand the question.

7. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?

Uh. Probably The 100, back in the beginning of the year... *ugly laughter*. God, that was fucking brutal. I've never been so badly burned by a show before, and Lexa's death felt like a personal betrayal in so many ways. And I'm saying this as someone who barely ships Clexa -- I mean, I do, but it's not my OTP, I can't imagine how that must have felt for people who really, really loved the ship. As is, it made me suicidal for a week and I sort of gave up hope for WLW representation in TV.

8. Your TV boyfriend of the year?

...TV? Must it be?

If it must, probably Dick Grayson from Young Justice. I know it's animated. Still.

9. Your TV girlfriend of the year?

ISABELLE LIGHTWOOD. I LOVE HER WITH ALL MY HEART AND SOUL.

10. Your biggest squee moment of the year?

MALEC KISS. MALEC KISS MALEC KISS MALEC KISS. I CRIED SO MUCH.

11. The most missed of your old fandoms?

Eh... when I'm doing single-minded focus on one fandom, it's hard to actually miss other fandoms. But I kinda missed Doctor Who, since no episodes and it got taken off Netflix so I can't rewatch. And I kinda miss Teen Wolf, but it's there, I just... don't care anymore. It's that single-minded obsession, and also depression. It's so hard to care about anything.

12. The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?

I lowkey want to get into Yuri On Ice, since I've heard so many good things, but I don't watch anime usually, and I'm a little worried that I'll lose my DC fixation before I can finish all the fics I have to read later. Not the best reason, maybe, but... it happened with SW, I was in the middle of things and lost interest when DC happened, so.

13. Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?

Justice League movie, Wonder Woman movie, more Star Wars Rebels, Orphan Black final season, Shadowhunters S2, Sense8 S2, and probably more.

1. Are you easily intimidated by people in some sort of power position, like say your boss or a former teacher, when you meet them on the street?
....Yeah, I'd say so. I'm easily intimidated in general.

2. Do you like pants pockets and what do you tend to put in them?
I LOVE pants pockets but since I buy women's clothes usually, they're nOT BIG ENOUGH FOR ANYTHING. I do put my phone in them, my transit card if I need it soon, [redacted] in the front pocket most of the time if I'm not just at the computer, and sometimes my kobo if I need to store it temporarily.

3. Do you believe the saying, 'Everything old is new again?'
No... I guess... I don't really get it?

4. Do you believe in serendipity?
Sort of. Not specifically.

5. Did you have to look up serendipity before answering Question 4?
Yeah, I thought I knew what it meant but apparently not! Considering there's a chapter in my novel called Serendipity, I maybe should have known it already.

This is kind of awful because I'm tired as hell but whatever.

So it's late and I should be going to bed, but I'm not going to have internet or the computer for five days so I might as well. Also I think my answers to this should be... interesting. From [community profile] thefridayfive

1) What was your first day of school like?

I have one very specific memory from my first day of school, actually! My best friend at the time, who grew up to be an emotionally manipulative jerk, was in the same class as me, and I went to sit next to her, and she told me that we weren't friends anymore and I started crying. Thus began seven years or so of on-and-off, mostly competitive and definitely unhealthy friendship. I am really, really glad that I don't have to see her anymore.

2) What was the last day you attended school like?

I don't remember, because I didn't think it would be my last. I was taking two classes at a local high school, and I was planning on continuing that, but it fell through. It was at the end of ninth grade, I think?

3) Have you had a teacher who really influenced you?

Probably my creative writing teacher when I was nine/ten or so -- I really liked her and I always love creative writing, so I always liked her class. When she left my school, it was one of the many contributing factors to the Major Depressive Episode that encompassed sixth grade.

4) What was the first school you attended?

An elementary school in my neighbourhood. It actually only goes up to grade 3, and then everyone buses after that. It's really small, as well -- only two classes, K-1 and 1-3, and 33 students a couple of years ago (last time I heard a number).

5) To you, is college important?

Uh. Maybe ask me that when I've actually gone to it, or not? I mean, I think it is, but I don't think it should be, if you get what I mean? I think it's important and everything, but I think the idea that everyone has to go or you won't get a livable job is kinda against the point of what it means. Not everyone is made to be an intellectual, and everyone going to college because it's ~what you have to do~ makes it almost meaningless. So basically I think it's more and less important than it's seen as being. I don't even know, really.

“No,” said Ahsoka, leaning even farther away. She shook her head from side to side, as if that would make the truth up and disappear. “No—no, he’s not a Sith!”
“He tried to kill me,” said Padmé softly. “Ahsoka — he is not Anakin Skywalker anymore. I’m sorry.”

I've never done this before, but hey, I have some extra time and I'm way too awake for almost 2am, so why not, right? [community profile] thefridayfive

1. What is your favorite 'food' holiday?

Probably Thanksgiving? But as a Canadian, it's in October, so that was last month for me.

2. Do you prefer ham or turkey (or tofu turkey)?

TURKEY. I don't dislike ham (I know someone who literally never eats it -- not for religious reasons -- which I find really weird, but anyway) but turkey is so much better if it's done well.

3. Do you anticipate or dread seeing your relatives for the holidays?

Depends on the relatives? We usually go see my aunt on my mom's side since they live within day-trip driving distance (the others live in the Interior, or interior BC for non-BC people) and it's usually fine, though this Thanksgiving got a little... weird... and I'm sort of glad my dad wasn't there because it would have become a huge fight, I think. The relatives on my dad's side are... okay... though I feel a little weird about being around them, since they're all small-town people (not super small town, but...) and I'm, well, extremely bisexual. Although the only one who reacted to me coming out as bi on facebook (my dad's sister) was cool with it, but still.

4. When do you start listening to Christmas carols (for real, you can tell us)?

This year I started on October 31st after the last trick or treaters were gone because for some reason I am REALLY feeling the holiday spirit this year. Usually the beginning of December.

5. How are you feeling right now with regards to the upcoming holiday season?

God, I'm actually so excited. I love Christmas -- the aesthetic of it, the warm and fuzzy feelings, the choir concerts, the food, EVERYTHING. I am honestly so excited and I really wish it were closer now, but I'm glad it's not, because I have more time to enjoy it.
