bluegansey: faceless clary fray looking down on a red backround (clary fray red)

From [community profile] thefridayfive, slightly late, whoops sorry.

1. Have you come to the conclusion that your parents music (music popular in their time) isn't so bad?
Well, I mean, I kinda hate it, but sometimes I'll like individual songs if I don't hear them while trapped in my parent's car. It's not objectively bad, but like a lot of things, it makes me feel nostalgic in a way that I don't like (since it was the ONLY music i ever listened to until I was about eleven) and also it all sounds the same to me.

2. Is there a song/group/singer you once adored, but don't now?
Hm... well, I guess Fall Out Boy? I don't dislike their music, not at all, but none of their songs are my favourites anymore.

3. Is there a song/group/singer you once despised, but is okay now?
My life got a lot better when I stopped hating One Direction on principle. Some of their songs are fine.

4. Have you ever heard a favorite song and suddenly had a reinterpretation its meaning?
...I don't know? I don't think so?

5. What song would you just as soon never hear again?
I'm Like A Bird by I don't know the artist by memory and don't want to look it up -- Natalie something maybe? I have never despised a song as much as that one, and I have no idea why. At all.

It's not quite Friday yet where I am but ehhhhh. From [community profile] thefridayfive

1) Do you want to get married?
I mean, maybe? If I make it out of my teenage years as a functional human being, which is kind of up in the air right now.

2) Where would you like to get married?
Probably either outside or somewhere non-traditional (probably not a church, I'm not religious and no one in my family is, but I guess it depends on the person I'm marrying). I think probably not in my home city, or even general area, because I kind of hate it. Maybe by the sea somewhere. I like oceans, from a distance. (although I'm not going to do what a neighbour of mine did when she got married -- had her dad row her in and then come up to the wedding where everyone was waiting, because they didn't check tide charts and got stuck in the sand. which was hilarious and recently during a sea kayaking lesson I used it as a personal example of why tides really do matter.)

3) If you were getting married in a week, who would be in your wedding party?
...my family and some of my school friends, probably, but like, I literally can't get married right now, so. Idk if my school friends will still be my friends when I get married, so idk.

4) What would your wedding colours be?
Probably like... pale pink and teal or something. Definitely pastels, definitely cooler colours other than pink maybe -- blue, green, or pink are definites, not sure about anything else. Maybe gold? I don't know, I've never actually thought about it. I was never a kid who fantasized about my future wedding, which was probably an early indicator of either 1. gay or 2. suicidal ideation.

5) Does marriage mean to you 'til death do us part?'
I mean, I would hope so. I wouldn't marry someone I couldn't see myself spending the rest of my life with, unless it was either for citizenship somewhere or money (does this make me a bad person to admit? probably!), but I don't think I would refuse to get a divorce on the grounds of "it SHOULD be forever". I would like to think that I have the guts to be able to walk away if it really isn't working.

1) What's the weather like where you are today?
Hot. Sunny. Could be worse, but it's hot enough that I wish I could wear shorts. (I just dyed my hair so I'm wearing my paint jeans. Which are full-length jeans. At least they have holes in them)

2) How does this type of weather make you feel?
Nostalgic? Depressed? Oversensitive? Annoyed? All of those things in varying degrees. Although it really depends where I am. If I'm not at home or in the city, I love this weather.

3) What's your favourite time of year (thinking about the weather)?
...autumn, probably? I like layers, I like being able to wear tights, I like not having extreme cold indoors and needing a jacket just for that. And I just love autumn in general. I love winter as well, but autumn edges out ahead just because I won't ever *need* to wear snow boots.

4) Is there any weather that just makes you want to hide away indoors?
SUPER HOT WEATHER. Thank god we almost never get that here, although this summer is looking likely to be warmer than most because global warming of course. Yeah... I've never been anywhere really really really cold, so cold weather just makes me want to put on a jacket and go sit outside, hopefully in the snow.

5) If you were moving somewhere purely for the climate, where would it be - what's your perfect year-round weather scenario?
...probably here, to be honest, or in the Gulf Islands, which is the same but has the advantage of not being in the city, so there are Trees and Less Concrete.

 1. Have you ever been to summer camp?
I went for like... three years in a row, i think, from like ages 10-12? It was a kind-of religious camp in interior BC and it was like four hours away from where I live.

2. If so, was it fun or did you hate it?
It was pretty fun, though the preachy stuff was a little annoying. Still don't know why my parents sent me there, since my mom is vaguely atheist and my dad is Very Atheist. Yeah, it was pretty fun, I guess.

3. If not, did you ever wish you had?

4. What movie says "Summer Time" to you?
Oh, man, I don't know, I don't watch a lot of movies.

5. Did movies like "Friday the 13th" put you off summer camp?
Never seen it, never really thought about it. The only thing that puts me off from summer camp (and made me stop going) was my social anxiety, since I didn't have friends that could go with me.

1) What was the first recipe or food you learned how to cook?
Probably like... toast. Probably. But for actual recipe? Probably this chili recipe that my family found in a children's cookbook around nine or ten years ago and we've been cooking it practically every week since then. It has five ingredients -- two pounds of roast beef, four cups of salsa (blended), a bit less than a quarter cup of chili powder, and two cans each of kidney beans and chickpeas. And then it just simmers. It's super simple and I could probably cook it in my sleep, plus it's delicious and I'll probably never stop loving it. (There's a note pinned to my fridge with a quote from me, in April 2009: "I will never say 'I hate chili'." It's been eight years and I still haven't.

2) What recipe or food did you cook most recently?
I literally just got home from a five-day camping trip last night, and probably didn't cook a single thing while I was gone (unless salad from the one group meal I did counts). I baked creme brulee (and muffins) the day before I left, though I'm not sure if that counts, since it's probably closer to baking. I think I also made bean salad that day.

3) What recipe or food do you cook most often?
Probably chili.

4) What is your favorite recipe?
There's this really good casserole with meatballs, bread, cream cheese, and pasta sauce that I really enjoy making, maybe? Also a couple of salads -- a bean salad with capers, and a chicken-curry-apple salad that I absolutely ADORE.

5) What is the recipe you make that impresses other people the most?
Well, it's my mom's recipe, but I know how to make it as well and I usually bring it for potlucks. It's a chili dip, with a layer of cream cheese on the bottom and then canned chili, salsa, cheese, etc on top, and then baked. It's always a huge hit and I've never totally understood the appeal -- though I'm a weirdo who doesn't like chunks of veggies so I always blend my salsa, so.

If you could, would you be a movie star or a rock star?
If my anxiety straight-up disappeared and it were feasible? Movie star, I love acting more than I like singing by myself or songwriting.

Have you ever been in the media (TV, Radio, Papers)?
No, I don't think so? Well, I think everyone at my school including me did a short profile for the local... paper/newsletter? I don't know if that counts, since I wrote it and all.

Do you know anyone who's been on a reality TV show?
Nope.

Have you ever met anyone famous?
One time I saw Ryan Reynolds at the PNE, maybe. Maybe. It was cool.

Who would play you in a movie?
I cannot for the life of me think of any actress who looks enough like me. I don't know. It feels like asking which character is most like me in personality or something; I guess most people can answer it, but I have literally no sense of myself as a person, either personality or physically, so I really don't know.

1. What is your current main mode of transportation? e.g. car, bike, subway, walking etc.
I really don't travel all that much, but usually by Skytrain/walking. Sometimes the bus. The ferry, quite a lot.

2. Are you satisfied with your current main mode of transportation (answer to question 1)? Why?
I would rather be driving, but like, I'd have to actually get my learner's...

3. Do you think you'll change your means of transit soon? e.g. buy a car, get rid of your car, walk more etc.? If so why?
If I get a license, yes, I'll start driving. If not... probably more of the same.

4. If time distance and money were not factors how do you prefer to get from point A to point B?
Private bus, flying, or ferry. Pretty much anything that doesn't require you to be in the exact same spot the whole time.

5. What was your worst transit experience?
Possibly my flight to Japan? I took a sleeping pill six (of ten) hours in, and didn't fall asleep, so once we landed it was seriously kicking in and I had the worst headache of my life and was lying on the airport floor half-asleep for ages. And then on the next flight (one hour), it was delayed so we were taxiing around for half an hour, and I woke up every. single. time we stopped, so I was just waking and falling asleep for the whole time.
Other than that... I've had some seriously annoying ferry delays. And then two weeks ago there was a fire alarm on my ferry. We were practically docked -- I was going down to the vehicle deck to get off when the alarm went off -- so it wasn't as scary as it could have been, but the crew were all putting on their vests and the speaker was repeating "this is not a drill" and all the passengers had to gather in the forward lounge for a while while they contained the smoke in the engine room. And I was alone. It was... something.

Late as usual, sigh... from [community profile] thefridayfive

1: How did you name your pets?
It's been ages since I named a pet, and both times they were family pets so it was a democratic process. For my cats, my brother named his Rocky (I don't know why) and I named mine a random French word. She's now drifting in the wind, god rest her soul (she's probably alive). With my dog, a few years later, we all put suggestions -- I suggested Calliope because of Greek myth -- and cut most of them if anyone disliked them, and voted. Calliope won, and we call her Callie now.

2: Poirot or Miss Marpel?
Never read either. Yes, I'm one of those Goddamn Millennials.

3: Do you have a FB account too?
I've had one since I was nine, though the first one got deleted for reasons unknown. I still have my second account, but I don't use it except to log into games and send messages

4: Books - hardcover or paperback?
Physical books? Paperback, for sure, it's so much easier to read. I always feel so anxious reading new hardcovers, and they're generally just harder to manage. But in the end, while I do love physical books, I prefer my kobo (or like. maybe a newer model, but that's neither here nor there) because of the ease of transport, the ability to read fanfiction and not look like a Goddamn Millennial on my phone (and also read them offline) and being able to highlight passages. Though that's a little easier in iBooks on my phone.

5: Mobile(cell phone): Windows/Android or Apple?
Apple, I think. I had an android for my first phone, but since it was my first phone, it was absolutely terrible (two. gigs. of. space. TOTAL.) and it kinda put me off androids.

1) What famous landmarks have you visited?
I don't think I've actually visited any. Uh, I've been to some Olympic buildings in Vancouver, but those probably don't count as famous landmarks.

2) How has travel affected you?
At this point in my life, my school is on a fucking island, so I travel there and back by ferry every week, for about three hours each way. So I guess I'm pretty used to being in transit. And I've flown on planes a lot, so I'm pretty used to those as well. Though even after all that, I'm really, really bad at packing.

3) What are the best souvenirs you’ve ever collected while traveling?
I think I got some cool dolls from Mexico when I was like, eight, but I'm not much of a souvenir person in general, so I don't tend to collect them.

4) What is your fantasy vacation?
Spending a month or two in various parts of Europe, including France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and probably more. I think it would be really stressful, but also really amazing.

5) Would you want to be a space tourist?
If it were relatively safe and pure tourism? Yeah, I think so.

From [community profile] thefridayfive . CLARA OSWALD ICON IS RELEVANT.

1. Do you like traveling or are you counting the minutes until the transporter is perfected?
There's definitely aspects of travelling I don't like (*flashbacks to that horrific flight to Japan two years ago*) but overall? I actually do like it. If I don't have internet, I basically have to read, or do something productive; I really enjoy that. Especially longer journeys in comfortable-ish settings (buses or airplanes).

2. If you could visit any country in the world right now, where would you go?
Switzerland. I just read an article about what the workforce is like there, and honestly, sign me the fuck up.

3. What is your favorite form of travel?
Airplanes. AIRPLANES. I know, air travel is awful and all, but if it's a relatively nice flight? HELL TO THE YEAH.

4. What is the longest vacation/holiday that you’ve ever been on?
...I think Japan? Which was a little longer than two weeks, I think????? I don't actually remember how long it was. But I'd say that wherever it was, two weeks is probably about the length of my longest vacation.

5. Would you travel for a living?
My dad does it, and honestly, I think I'd hate it. I mean, depends on what I was doing, but I don't really like hotels and I hate packing.

1) What family traditions did your family have, while you were growing up?
I'm realising that this is possibly the worst theme for me, since I've been thinking lately (more in terms of culture) that my family doesn't really have any real traditions. No one is religious and everyone identifies as 100% Canadian, with no real outside influences. I honestly find it kinda depressing, considering how many interesting or cool traditions we COULD have.

2) What new traditions have you established since becoming an adult?
Well, I'm not an adult. So I don't know what I'll do. I've been trying to get more into tarot, so maybe I could start reading tarot daily or weekly?

3) What tradition is most important to you in your current life?
Sigh... again, really nothing.

4) What traditions do you have for the current season (spring or fall, depending on where you live)?
:/ wow I'm getting kinda sad about this. WHY IS MY FAMILY SO INCREDIBLY BORING.

5) What traditions would you like to establish in the future?
Like I mentioned, tarot. I'd like to do smaller things on significant days, in order to commemorate them -- probably mostly historical LGBTQ days. I'd like to buy books and get steak on my birthday whenever possible, and go see this one theatre production every summer once I can't participate myself anymore (this summer is going to be my second-to-last year) and reread certain books/fics at least once per year. And I'd like to continue making myself cry on Valentine's Day -- I think that's my only real tradition, actually, and I didn't even do it this year. (I watch sad scenes from movies or TV shows one after another until the accumulative effect makes me cry) Wow, I'm starting to feel vaguely sad about the future, though that might just be the music I'm listening to. I just discovered this band and their music is EMOTIONAL.

1. What was your favorite past time in high school?
I'm still in high school technically, but I really don't have a pastime? Unless reading way too much fanfiction counts. Maybe choral singing, I think that's potentially "past time-y" enough and I can tell anyone who asks me, something I really can't do with fanfiction.

2. What is your all time favorite board game/card game?
I've never played much of either, but I really love spoons and poker (just for fun). I used to love playing the game of life, but I haven't played it in years. (Oddly, today my mom is clearing out some old board games as part of a "cleaning up the house" initiative and there's board games everywhere.)

3. What is the last movie you saw at the theatre and what did you think of it?
LOGAN. AND I LOVED IT. I'M STILL SO EMOTIONAL.

4. What is something (no matter what kind of mood your in) that makes you happy the moment you do it, see it, or hear it?
Hm... there are probably a handful of fics like this, but I can't think of them offhand. Also, cat pictures. I love cat pictures.

5.Do you believe that crop circles are made by human or alien?
I may be an atheist, but at my core I am still really superstitious and believe in the paranormal/supernatural/etc (as evidenced by my recent foray into tarot). So yeah, I think there's quite possibly an alien explanation.

 1. How do you feel about cooking?
I love it, actually, when I have proper ingredients. I probably prefer baking, but I love both. It's just very hard to cook in my house bc I ALWAYS need to go grocery shopping first and it just feels way too difficult, so I just... preheat.

2. How often do you cook a meal (from mostly fresh ingredients, not something ready-assembled that you just heat)?
Uh... I usually make dinner once or twice a week, and for myself I usually make all breakfasts and lunches but only about... half? Maybe? Are actually cooked as opposed to heated? Not totally sure.

3. How many people do you usually cook for, when you cook?
At home, either myself, or for three or for four (if my dad is home). When I'm at school and happen to be on food (like next school week, ahahahahah we still don't have a food plan!) for twelve.

4. Do you have a favourite recipe book or chef?
No, I tend to just google recipes for whatever ingredients I have or what I want to make.

5. Kitchen tools: use the fewest possible or gadgets are your friend?
I like gadgets! I can't buy them, usually, but I do like them. I have a really cool egg yolk extractor but I put it in my hope chest instead of using it.

1. Have you ever been to Ireland?
No, but I'd like to go someday. I think I'm part Irish (very far back, on my dad's side where everyone has been Canadian for several generations) so I think it would be pretty cool, at least for that.

2. According to Facts about Ireland, 73% of Americans are unable to locate Ireland on a map bereft of country names. Whether you are American or not, can you find it on a map?
I'm Canadian, and I just checked -- yep!

3. Are you or do you know a natural redhead?
I'm not. I go to school with one (she's more strawberry blonde, but still), and I know another one who is a leader at the musical camp I go to in the summer. And I think one of my brother's friends is one. I know quite a few, actually, I think.

4. Will you be celebrating St Patrick's Day?
I don't know how I really would? I'm wearing green, that'll be enough, I think.

5. Do you even know who St. Patrick is and why we celebrate his day?
Uh... no. I should research that, lol.

Shadow. The name of the dog we had when I was a kid. (He lived a good, long life.)

2) How old were you?
Apparently less than a year? I just called my dad and asked.

3) Who heard you say it?
My mom. My dad was so confused when I called him and asked those two things, good god.

4) Did you have trouble pronouncing any words as a kid?
Oh, definitely. I was a HUGE reader so there were a ton of words that I had never heard spoken, just read, and then embarassing mistakes happened. They still happen. The only one I remember specifically is albino (I pronounced it al-BEEN-oh) but there were definitely others.

5) Are there any words you consistently mispronounce today?
Uh... yes, they just aren't coming to mind. There are a lot of words that I shorten and/or use weird contractions for, as well, and it ALWAYS gets pointed out if my mom hears me. Not sure if that was the point. Sorry, I'm really tired.

because I'm procrastinating on actually Doing Things. Oh well, I'm not going to school yet if I even go this week so I don't have to watch the time and go to bed soon.

How many pets have you had at one time?
Right now, I think -- four. My cat, my dog, and my brother's gerbils. We sorta kinda have one other cat but she kinda... ran away slowly after we got our dog and someone a few blocks away took her in (she's an indoor-outdoor cat, like my other cat). I really miss her sometimes, but we see her every so often and as far as I know she's happy, so I'm okay, I think.

What is the strangest pet you have ever had?
I think my taste in animals is boring, really... I've only personally had a cat and a family dog.

What is the coolest trick you have ever taught a pet?
My dog can do "dance", where she gets up on her back legs and spins in a circle. I don't think I taught her that personally but it's cute.

Real animals: What animal have you always wanted as a pet?
Not counting the ones I've had? I wouldn't mind a rabbit, I really like them. But I think I'd rather have a cat than anything else because purring is so comforting to me -- I have a few memories of sobbing my eyes out while holding a purring cat to my chest to make me feel better and it always helped. (Also one time I was having Heart Issues (aka that one time I went to the ER) and before I actually went there my chest was hurting like a motherfucker and I put my cat on top of it and his purrs made me feel a little better). Also I just?? Love cats??? So much.

Imaginary animals: Describe the ideal pet, an animal that doesn't really exist.
Man, idk. A cat but bigger and purrs more often? A cat that won't try to escape? I mean, my cat goes outside and comes in at his leisure but I never stop being worried he'll get hit by a car, even if he's lived five (six?) years without it happening. Idk man, I'm happy with cats. I love cats.

These are not so great answers but. Yeah. I love cats is all.

1. How do you like your coffee?
Generally speaking, I'm not a huge coffee person because my parents never let me drink it with sugar so I never got into the habit. If I do drink it, then with generous sugar and milk. Or just, like, Starbucks coffees with way too much sugar and ridiculous flavours (yes I love Starbucks I'm a very white girl I've made my peace with it)

2. How do you like your tea?
Like, 90% of the time if I drink tea it's peppermint tea, so like... just on its own, I guess? Or with sugar and milk if it's regular tea (idk what to call it?? tea is not my area of expertise)

3. What's your favorite late night beverage?
I really like drinking hot chocolate at night.

4. If you could only drink one thing for the next week, what would it be?
...would probably have to be water. I've been drinking too many sugary drinks lately and my throat is killing me, to the point where it physically hurts to drink anything with sugar in it. I need to drink more water anyway.

5. If you were on vacation, what would be the first thing you'd drink to celebrate?
Probably lemonade. It's my favourite drink, always has been.

This is so so late but I saw the questions and it's EXACTLY MY INTEREST SO HERE WE GO (from [community profile] thefridayfive)

1) What would/did you name your first child?
Girl or boy? Huh. I have SO MANY NAME OPTIONS whoops but right at the moment Cosima, Leia, Lydia, and Mara for a girl -- Amy is probably, like, the name I've loved for the longest but idk if I'd use it. For boys I have... less options... because I don't like as many boy names... but I like Ezra, Isaac and Damian.

2) What do you think makes a good name for a baby?
Names that are personally meaningful, that aren't excessively difficult to pronounce, and I guess? Sound pretty? I mean, personally, I really like names of characters I love because it means something to me, but other people might choose differently, and that's cool too.

3) What do you think makes a bad name for a baby?
Uh... I don't like some names, personally, but usually that's just personal taste. Generally I don't think parents should give a first name that's the same as someone they want to honour, because I think it's a little confusing? But idk man. Oh -- those weird ridiculous suburban white spellings of perfectly good names. IF YOU LIKE IT, JUST USE THE NAME.

4) What's a name that you love, but would never give a child? Why?
Ahsoka, Luminara, Aelin, Cersei... epic fantasy/sci fi names, basically. Or really really popular ones -- I love the name Luke but I know like five of them in acquaintance and I just. Can't.

5) Did your parents do a good job naming you?
I think so! But I think they could have been more creative on my middle name. (My name is Nicola Michelle)

Do you make New Year's resolutions?
I never really have, I'm not that good at it. But I really want to be a better person this year, so I have a general idea of that.

Are you expecting any big life changes this year? (new job, buying a house, etc.)
Not really, I think... well, actually, I think I might actually get a job, for the first time. And I might start going to a school that's basically half outside and on an island and you actually cook with a wood stove and hike for like an hour to get anywhere, but that's still kind of up in the air.

What are you most looking forward to this year?
...would it be terrible to say it's mostly movies that I'm looking forward to? I'm terrible at remembering release dates, but like -- Wonder Woman, Justice League, SW Episode VIII, and probably some others I'm forgetting. And, like, new seasons of SWR and stuff.

What are you least looking forward to this year?
Probably the fact that if I don't end up going to Island School, I have to get Serious about graduating and figuring out my life and I'm... not ready to do that. And also Trump. Everything about that.

Is there anything you want to try this year that you haven't tried before? (could be a new food, new hobby, or anything.)
I kinda really want to try more things in writing, but nothing specific, I think -- just pushing my comfort zone and stuff. Once I actually start writing again. And I would really like to try living more honestly and just be a better person in general, which maybe isn't a new thing to try but it sorta counts as it, I think.

1. Are you easily intimidated by people in some sort of power position, like say your boss or a former teacher, when you meet them on the street?
....Yeah, I'd say so. I'm easily intimidated in general.

2. Do you like pants pockets and what do you tend to put in them?
I LOVE pants pockets but since I buy women's clothes usually, they're nOT BIG ENOUGH FOR ANYTHING. I do put my phone in them, my transit card if I need it soon, [redacted] in the front pocket most of the time if I'm not just at the computer, and sometimes my kobo if I need to store it temporarily.

3. Do you believe the saying, 'Everything old is new again?'
No... I guess... I don't really get it?

4. Do you believe in serendipity?
Sort of. Not specifically.

5. Did you have to look up serendipity before answering Question 4?
Yeah, I thought I knew what it meant but apparently not! Considering there's a chapter in my novel called Serendipity, I maybe should have known it already.

This is kind of awful because I'm tired as hell but whatever.
